Ben and Leah's purple and orange wedding was vibrant, full of colour and had plenty of DIY details. Shot by Sassy from Assassynation, the photography really brings this wedding to life and captures the spirit of the day and the vibrancy of the complementary colours.
The flowers, the bridesmaids' dresses, the boys cravats, stationery and the decor all mixed and matched orange and purple. The intent was to choose colours that stood out from other weddings and do something different. Although there were many traditional elements to the wedding such as a vintage car, big designer dress and morning suits for the boys, there are plenty of elements that I really adore.
Leah wore a full length Ian Stuart dress with simple, sentimental wedding accessories. Leah had her grandmother's pearls restrung and with the extra pearls left over had her earrings especially made. Her husband also bought her a pearl necklace which she opened on the morning of the wedding, so she also wore this. I really love it when old jewellery is revamped and made into a piece with even more sentimentality and meaning.
Ben and Leah did their own wedding stationery, using a similar design to one they'd seen online and re-colouring it orange. They also made their own favours, which were origami heart bookmarks in a multitude of colours - a really nice touch. Leah said "Our colour scheme was very vibrant, and made the whole event seem full of light, and life! It seemed a stark contrast to the pinks and ivories you get at a lot of weddings."
The choice of flowers was quite different too. Instead of the usual pastel roses and lilies, Leah chose (and I love some of these names) 'cherry brandy' orange roses, orange parrot tulips, orange ranunclus, purple anemone, purple lissianthus and purple veronica with eucalyptus. The bridesmaids had pared down versions to contrast with their burnt orange dresses.
The couple finished off the night with Ben's band 'Place Above' reforming for the first time in five years. They played plenty of modern punk and rock as well as their own songs. Leah said "The hour long set with theband made our dance floor become more like a mosh pit!"
Thanks to Assassynation for sharing this Ben and Leah's purple and orange wedding. And just to finish off, here's what Leah and Ben had to say about Sassy's work: "Sassy takes very unconventional photographs, and the finished article was a collection of really abstract and creative pictures, which we're really pleased with."
Getting married doesn't have to be cookie-cutter or identi-kit. Do something different
and get your wedding remembered, but most of all keep it 'you'. Remember, if you get stuck, just ask...
