There are some amazing wedding cake ideas that I've seen lately. I think a cake is an important, as well as fun, part of a wedding that is sometimes overlooked. A lot of people think cakes have to be traditional; big, white, and made of fruit.
For this reason many brides and grooms are opting out of having cake at all. The truth is that there are many amazing and unique ideas out there for cakes. I've put some of the best ones together, but there way too many for just one page!
There are plenty of ideas out there for unusual cakes. Bright colours and unique flavours are good ways of making it stand out. Gravity-defying lopsided cakes look amazing. I've seen amazing cakes in the shape of giant castles, Super Nintendos, and even Barbie and Ken.
Of course, it doesn't have to be a cake at all. It might be cupcakes, croquembouche, or a delicious chocolate mud cake.
For fantastic inspiration, simply look back in time. Wedding cakes of the past were usually simple, had a couple of tiers and made of fruit cake. They were usually decorated with a small amount of ribbon, and sometimes with flowers. You can also opt for a vintage style one, decorated with beautiful beads and ribbons.
If you are looking for something creative, then doing something a little different with your wedding cake topper can be a lot of fun. There are romantic, cute and funny toppers out there to choose from. For something really special, you can commission an artist to make a topper to look just like you and your partner.
Gone are the days when you could only choose between a round or square wedding cake. These ideas are unlimited.
Heart-shaped, hexagonal, oval; a slab of this sweet pastry for your special day can come in any shape you desire. I've seen boats, guitars and even the Eiffel tower recreated as wedding cakes. You don't have to choose a simple cake design with two or three tiers either, you can have a simple one level, just make sure there is enough for everyone.
If you're gifted in the kitchen you might like to make your own. Less and less people are serving fruit cake at their wedding.
Chocolate is probably the most popular; I've seen chocolate and vanilla layers done quite a few times now. Personally, I love fruit cake, but there are a lot of people who don't. Choosing something different can mean that it can be far more popular dish on the day.
Don't be afraid to simply choose a cake recipe because you and your partner like it. Carrot, sponge, or even a cheesecake can work well, and is also refreshing and different.
